Green Initiative Details
The first 7 weeks of the Green Initiative Program have been a great success! The students and teachers are in awe of how much is collected each week! Since September 19th we have collected over 75 pounds of recycables. This includes:
- 911 chip bags
- 703 juice pouches
- 13 pounds of ziploc bags
- 7 pounds of writing supplies and glue sticks
- 676 “Labels for Education” clipped from the Goldfish bags
Aside from our classroom snack and lunch bins, a collection bin was recently added to the cafeteria to recycle water bottles from lunches.
A huge Thank You to all the families who have been saving the Terracycle items at home and sending them in with their children. It has been a huge help!
Speaking of help!! We NEED more volunteers to help with the recycling collecting. We have the 4th graders helping and a couple moms, but are in need of a few more. It only takes about an hour or so as little as once per month! Please help our environment and our kids!! Please contact Stacey Nesmith, simonmclean@netzero.net f you are able to sign up for a few dates.A Green Tip
Use tupperware containers or reusable bags for snacks and lunches instead of ziploc bags. There are some great websites where you can purchase reusable sandwich and snack bags. For example: snacktaxi.com, wrapnmat.com, fluf.ca, amazon.com, reuseit.com, resnackit.com. Let's see if we can reduce our ziploc bag usage at Old Union!!
